Braverman Eye Center is proud to offer a comprehensive OD Residency Program designed to provide optometric professionals with advanced clinical training and hands-on experience in specialized areas of eye care. About Braverman Eye Center
Braverman Eye Center is a comprehensive, multidisciplinary eye care practice staffed by five ophthalmologists, one optometrist, one licensed optician, four ophthalmic assistants/technicians, one certified ophthalmic technologist, and eight administrative team members.
State-of-the-Art Facility
The practice operates within a 12,000 square-foot facility that houses:
- Administrative offices
- A full-service optical dispensary
- A pre-testing area
- Sixteen fully equipped examination rooms, including a minor procedure suite
The center also features a dedicated refractive surgery suite with an excimer laser, as well as four specialized diagnostic rooms used for advanced imaging, fluorescein angiography, and in-office argon laser procedures.
Advanced Technology
Our diagnostic and surgical technology includes:
- An autokeratometer
- Autolensometer
- Autorefractor
- Corneal topography
- Wavefront aberrometry
- Anterior and posterior segment photography
- Optical coherence tomography (oct)
- And b-scan ultrasonography
- Corneal endothelial cell analysis
Our practice delivers full-scope optometric and ophthalmologic care, including emergency services, to approximately 1,500-1,800 patients per month. Our patient population is predominantly geriatric (approximately 80 percent) and primarily English-speaking.
OD Residency Program Offerings
Our residency program is designed to provide comprehensive clinical training and hands-on experience in a fast-paced, multidisciplinary environment. Residents will have the opportunity to work with a diverse patient population, gain proficiency in advanced diagnostic technologies, and collaborate with experienced professionals in both optometry and ophthalmology.
Program Details:
- Program Duration: 12.5 months
- Start Date: June 15
- End Date: June 30 of the following year
- Number of Positions: 1
Resident Responsibilities:
- Provide direct patient care
- Participate in on-call coverage beginning in July
- Precept and supervise optometry externs
- Manage extern schedules
- Participate in Extern and Resident Grand Rounds
- Attend professional meetings, continuing education events, and selected state and national optometric conferences
- Complete independent study and research culminating in a publishable manuscript
Clinical Training and Experience
The center offers extensive exposure to the diagnosis and management of ocular disease and pathology, as well as pre- and postoperative care for refractive procedures such as LASIK and PRK. Additional training includes cataract surgery, corneal and glaucoma procedures, oculoplastics, and vitreoretinal surgery.
Residents will practice to the full extent of Florida therapeutic law, participating in ocular disease co-management, glaucoma care, foreign body removal, punctal occlusion, and comprehensive primary eye care.
The program also provides education in practice and business management, organized optometry, and the cultural, social, and political considerations involved in modern healthcare delivery systems, including managed care environments
Teaching and Academic Responsibilities
Residents will serve as preceptors for 3–7 fourth-year optometric externs each quarter from six accredited optometry schools. Responsibilities include coordination of extern schedules and participation in weekly Grand Rounds presentations.
Research Expectations
The residency requires completion of at least one research paper suitable for submission to a peer-reviewed journal. Residents are encouraged to pursue additional research projects and present findings at regional and national professional meetings.
On-Call and Observational Experience
Residents are expected to be available for on-call responsibilities Monday through Friday from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM, as well as weekends, with an anticipated call frequency of one to two calls per month.
Observational opportunities include shadowing ophthalmology subspecialists as they deliver tertiary-level medical and surgical care to patients with complex ocular pathology.

- Presentation of lectures at extern Grand Rounds
- Completion of a publishable-quality research paper
- Fulfillment of professional and clinical obligations, including on-call duties
